Donald Coats, Attorney
Donald F. Coats, Jr., JD, CPA, LLM. Mr. Coats, who was born and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa, spent his undergraduate years at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. After graduation, Mr. Coats moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where he sat for and passed all four parts of the Certified Public Accountant Examination in November 1996. During that same time period he gained valuable work experience as a member of the tax department of a well respected Arizona CPA firm.
Mr. Coats went on to earn his Juris Doctor (JD) degree and a Masters in Tax Law (LLM) from the University of San Diego School of Law in San Diego, California. As a result of successfully completing three state bar exams, Mr. Coats is a licensed attorney in the States of Arizona, California, and Iowa. Additionally, he holds a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license and real estate license in the State of Arizona.
Mr. Coats’ time as lead attorney for a national asset protection law firm and the in-house legal counsel for a sizeable real estate corporation has made him very adept in fully understanding the overall financial pictures of the clients he has seen during his many years serving as estate planning counsel at the Dana Law Firm.
Currently Mr. Coats focuses his practice at the Dana Law Firm on Asset Protection and Estate Planning, including Wills and Trusts. He also assists clients with their business needs, such as creating Limited Liability Companies (LLC) or Corporations. Because of Mr. Coats’ extensive experience, he is able to thoroughly analyze client’s situations and propose a positive solution.
Surrounded by some of the world’s best golf courses as a result of moving to Arizona, Mr. Coats has become an avid golfer and enjoys hiking, fly fishing and running.
